Halloween and All Saints Day

We love costumes around here, so Halloween and All Saints Day are two of our favorite holidays. Thank goodness I started getting over my all-day morning sickness early enough to have time to work on costumes. :)
The week before Halloween, our school had a family Halloween party. Here the first graders get ready to show off their costumes in the costume contest.

Grace the unicorn and Daniel the Seattle police officer did not win, but we still think they looked awesome.

This guy was our big winner of the night. He won the costume contest for preschool boys AND won a cake in the cake walk! Way to go, Matthew!

On our way to do some pre-darkness trick-or-treating at Grandma Eva's house.

These guys always love visiting Great-Grandma Eva, but on Halloween they get extra treats. :)

This was our second year participating in the All Saints Day Mass at our church. We decided to pick non-warrior saints this year, and ended up with a St. Francis, St. Peter (who looks angry here for some reason) and St. Juan Diego.

We forgot to take pictures of the rest of the many saints who showed up to celebrate with us, but here are our cute little saints outside the priory. Happy All Saints Day!

Halloween and All Saints

We love costumes around here, so we LOVE halloween. This year, we also participated in our parish's procession of the saints at their All Saints Day Mass.  We had Daniel's old St. Dominic costume for Aaron to wear, Matthew was going to be a knight for halloween, so he could be St. George, and Daniel could be a larger St. Dominic since we had recently made a new habit for him. However, once Daniel found out that Matthew was going to be a saint with a sword, he decided he wanted to be St. Michael the Archangel. So much for easy costumes.... In a stroke of luck, though, I found a pair of angel wings on sale for $6, so St. Michael it is!  We added the cappa to the St. Dominic costume, made some shields and tunics and we were good to go! Here are some pictures of our Halloween/All Saints Day festivities.

Neighborhood pre-Halloween activity: paper ghosts! All of the kids on our block are boys, and they're all under 6, so we have lots of fun with them. This day was almost like summer camp.

All the boys flying their ghosts down the street.

Ghost flying video.

Mommy was working hard at getting our costumes ready. Can you guess what Daniel is?

Matthew tries on his knight costume.

No uniform for Daniel on Halloween...it's black and orange day!

Matthew had the Halloween spirit right down to his socks.

Too bad the big boys had school...this little gnome and Mommy went day-time trick-or-treating at Great Grandma Eva's house.

Here they are, ready to go! A knight, a wolf, and a gnome.

 Trick or treat!

After a night of treats, here we are outside Blessed Sacrament getting read for the All Saints Day Mass. St. Dominic, St. Michael, and St. George!

There were a lot of little saints running around, it was hard to get many good pictures.

 St. Dominic looking very pious.

Fr. Marcin with the founder of his order.

Posing with a few other saints.

 Happy All Saints Day!

Halloween Fun

We had a LOT of fun on Halloween. Maybe too much fun. We're still feeling the effects of the candy and excitement so the pictures are just coming now....

Halloween Eve pumpkin carving. Why can we never get a picture with everyone looking at the camera?

 Pumpkin guts!

 Mommy at work.

The pumpkin pumpkin. The boys made a scary face. We failed to get pictures of the finished products. :(

Yummy pumpkin seeds the next day.

 Skeleton in the closet.

 Oh, it's just Aaron.

The boys in their black and orange garb.

The bags are ready...it must be time for trick-or-treating!

Our tradition of daylight trick-or-treating at Grandma Eva's house continues. This year an astronaut, fireman and soldier showed up at her door.

Grandma doles out the goods.

Super happy at how Aaron's costume turned out. (Thanks, Judy, for the fabric!)

 Uh oh...unattended candy.

 Matthew checks out his loot.

All ready for nighttime trick-or-treating, then off to a fun party across the street! Happy Halloween!

The Early Days III

Some more pictures from the last 2 months. Enjoy!

Results of milk-filled belly:)

Skinny legs and arms with a belly full of milk:)

Apparently he's able to tell that he's dressed like a pumpkin...and not impressed.
